Long Beach is a city in Southern California, on the Pacific coast. It is anchored in Los Angeles County, about 20 miles (32 km) south of the city of Los Angeles. Long Beach borders Orange County on its southeast edge.
Long Beach is the 38th-largest city in the nation and the sixth-largest in California. As of January 1, 2009, its estimated citizenry was 492,682. The Port of Long Beach is one of the world's busiest shipping ports, and has an ample oil industry; oil is found both underground and offshore. Manufacturers cover aircraft, car parts, cyberbanking and audiovisual equipment, and home furnishings. It is the home address for corporations including Epson America, Molina Healthcare, and SCAN Health Plan. Long Beach has been a developer of high-technology and aerospace industries in the area. In 2010, Long Beach was ranked America's eighth best walkable city.
